Race Analysis from Brands Hatch Round 2

It was a slow start to the weekend for both of us especially for Matt as the bike hadn’t been ridden since the crash at Donnington Park. After the first few laps during the first session we began to pick up the pace and bring down the lap times. The conditions were good and consistent throughout the whole weekend. For the first practice and qualifying we were testing out our new AIM data logging systems that had been put on the bike for this round. After overcoming a few issues we managed to get them up and running ready for qualifying 2.

During the 2nd qualifying we continuously improved however we both had the major issue of putting together an ideal lap. With some positive sectors at different points on each lap we kept losing out. This hindered our grid positions putting Matt back in 31st for the start of the race and Kurt in 33rd with one of his last laps being only 1.3 seconds off pole position. It was going to be an extremely difficult race with such poor qualifying positions for the both of us.

It came to the race and everything was set although we had a lot of work to do. After the lights going out, we managed to get a brilliant start and Matt was able to get a tow from another competitor into the first corner. Matt managed to get into the middle of the back and battle it out with other riders. Unfortunately for Kurt he was put off the circuit during the first couple of laps after colliding with another competitor on the entrance to druids. Matt continued to climb up through the pack finishing the race in 22nd and Kurt came back to catch up and pull back a couple of places finishing in 27th. Although this was not the best result the team has seen we still managed to put down an ideal lap times within 1 second of the leader.
