Sorrymate.com National 600 Endurance Team 2014 Season Review

As the Sorrymate.com pairing of Colin Norris and Warren Verwey prepared to defend the ACU National title they knew it was going to be a tough season.

Firstly, with Sorrymate.com principal, Fergus Dalgarno back in the saddle and heading up the Sorrymate.com Junior team, the guys need a new team manager, a vital role for a successful season. Secondly, there are several very competitive teams on the grid, the man to watch being TT winner Gary Johnson riding for Team Edge on immaculately prepared 675 Triumphs.

The first round at Brands Hatch was a good shakedown, the new pit crew worked well and the team finished 4th (could have been better but good points on the board).

Cadwell Park followed and things were looking good until Colin mis-judged an overtake and fell from the lead. He managed to re-mount and get back to the pits so Warren was straight out for his stint. The team worked frantically to repair Colin’s bike but the damage was too great so the decision was taken to convert to one bike. A great effort from everyone and another hard earned 4th place.

Pembrey saw the first podium of the season, then again at Anglesey but second to Team Edge who were steadily edging away in the championship.

The 6 hour double points race at Donington was crucial. Wildcard rider Richard Charlton joined the team and in very difficult wet conditions the team took a brilliant 1st place with Team Edge pushed back to 3rd.

A 2nd place at Snetterton then 1st at Knockhill kept the title hopes alive but the penultimate round at Oulton Park saw more bad luck. After just 6 laps Warren was missing, eventually coming into pit lane with the bike bellowing steam. Colin was straight out but Warren’s bike was beyond repair. Converting to one bike and with a massive effort from everyone the team clawed back to 4th place.

There was still a mathematical chance of the title entering the last round at Croft but it was not to be. Colin and Warren ended the season showering new champions Gary Johnson and Nick Edgeley with champagne on the final podium.

Our thanks go to all our sponsors, pit crew and of course wives for their support during the season!
