Bradley Wiggins has been voted as Sports Personality of the Year 2012 with an incredible 30% of the votes from the 12 contenders. The 32 year old cyclist won gold in London’s Olympic games which, along with the release of his book that came out earlier this year, means it has been a busy year for the Belgian born star. He stated that the award was his ‘greatest achievement’ to date. Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, presented the award to Wiggins. He later said: “Sports Personality is a bit of an institution in our house and always has been. To win this it’s very difficult to put into words. It’s incredible, and I’m very proud. It’s something I certainly wanted to win.” Fellow Olympic medalist Jessica Ennis and British tennis legend Andy Murray ranked second and third place respectively in the votes for the award.
