Our local bike-magnet venue is Lynn’s Raven Café, only a couple of miles from my home. The proprietors (Pete – a lifelong motorcyclist and now a Blood Biker as well) and his partner Lynn have regular “Big Biker Breakfast” events throughout the summer. The first one is always special as it heralds the start of the season.
Sunday 10 April 2016 dawned bright and sunny, perfect weather for a tootle out, so the Husband and I arranged to meet up with a friend (known as Brad Pitt for obvious reasons) on his 1200 Bandit, and off we set. Unfortunately the Bandit was not firing on all cylinders – literally – so Brad had to abandon his day out to go and tend to the poorly machine. Sorry girls, no pictures of Brad to post. Maybe next time.
My fellow Sorrymate colleague Steph and her husband Neil also made the trek down from Greater Manchester to join us, riding BMW and Triumph respectively.
There’s nothing quite like the sight of a sea of motorcycles and a gathering of like-minded people to chat to, and we had a fabulous time wandering around with a cuppa and viewing the vast array of different types of machine. The best ones are always the unusual ones – a motorcycle and side car combination beautifully made like aeroplane and bomb; road-legal monkey bikes; vintage and classic ‘bikes and stupendous paint jobs. All of the ‘bikes had been ridden to the café no matter what their style.
The photos show me and Steph amid just a small selection of the ‘bikes, the Ducati with his friends and the motorcycle/side car combination.
The Raven Café has a regular bike-night on a Thursday evening which is well worth a visit on a summer’s evening and there’s a friendly welcome to bikers any time of the year.
I left the café in a great mood (on my own – the Husband had long since given in to the allure of his armchair and sport on TV).
I decided to take the long way home and chose a lovely circuit through an area called Paradise near Hawkstone Park, just lovely in the springtime. Then back to more mundane matters – needed to do the supermarket shop but there was no way I was getting the car out for that, so it was out with the throw-overs and another nice ride out, this time for provisions! Any excuse!
