There have been 1,793 reported vehicle deaths in 2017. This is similar to the level recorded in 2012. There were 39% fewer fatalities seen in 2017 when compared to 2007.

There were 24,831 severe injuries in road traffic accidents reported to the police in 2017. There was a total of 170,993 casualties reported road traffic accidents in 2017. This means there was a 1.1% increase between 2016 and 2017. However, it is worth noting that there have been some drastic changes in the way injuries were reported.


UK Motorcycle accident statistics

Motorcycle fatalities have increased drastically compared to other road users. A total of 349 motorcycle deaths were reported in 2017. This is a 9% increase from 2016.

However, it is worth noting that motorcycle fatalities continue to fluctuate between 319 and 365 across six years. Thus no clear trend can be derived from the data.

Motorcycle traffic remained constant at 2.8 billion vehicle miles in 2017.
