Great Season opener by the 600 Endurance Team

Following on from a good test at Cartagena the established Sorrymate.com National 600 Endurance Team of Colin Norris and Warren Verwey were eagerly awaiting the first round of the Hottrax Endurance Championship.

The pairing will be joined for some rounds this season by Paul Slade on his R6 as Warren has commitments with his son Kade racing in Aprilla Superteens. Colin arrived first for the Friday test, Warren having raced Brands a couple of weeks earlier gave that a miss and arrived on Friday night. After a couple of hours setting up and stickering bikes the team were ready to go.

Saturday morning brought scruitineering, briefing and qualifying in quick succession. Colin went out first but no sooner than he left pit lane it started raining, a few slow laps on slicks and he was back in leaving Warren to put in a good time. He did not disappoint, 7th on the grid.

The weather remained threatening so Warren’s bike was left on sets and Colin’s on slicks. Pit lane opened and it was dry so Colin started. The warm up laps brought high drama, 2014 champion and TT star Gary Johnson fell heavily causing a delayed start.

Eventually all the riders formed up for the traditional LeMans start. Colin sprinted across the track but his bike would not start. He switched it off and on again and was away, dead last. After a few laps Colin had cuaght championship rivals Team Edge and Team Army 2 but the threatened rain started. Very soon there was a faller at Paddock Hill bringing out the pace car. Then Nick Edgeley fell off in a bizarre accident exiting Druids. Having unseated Nick the bike carried on down the hill and then turned across the track and crashed hard into the central barrier.

When the pace car came in Colin pitted, sending Warren out onto a drying track with wet tyres. It seems that being on the wrong tyres was the order of the day. Warren put in a strong ride and despite a few more showers the pairing came home a solid second in class and 5th Overall.

Good points on the board for the championship and confident in the team. Cadwell Report to follow soon.
